About the Society

The society was formed and registered under the Ministry of Cooperative on 26/05/2010 (CS. 12577)

The major aim of the society is to buy and own and manage some of the developed tea farms in and around Kericho & Bomet Counties

In May 2010, James Finlays Kenya (JFK) formally offered (private placement) to sell in this phase one 600 ha of Chemamul (70%) and Bondet (30%) to the society as an entity that represents the community.

The composition of the management of the society was understood to have:-

  • Solid and meaningful relations with JFK
  • Experience and expertise in mobilizing shareholders through a cooperatives
  • Financial and managerial capacity
  • Community goodwill

Registration and Shares

Registration fee is Ksh. 500

One share is Ksh. 5000 and additional shares in multiples of 5,000/=

Currently our membership is 5253 with a share-capital of Ksh. 402,117,020

We took over the ownership and management of the Estate on 01/07/2012 and our GL production is 800000 kg pm.

Infrastructure

The Estate has the following infrastructure:-

  • 4 Labour camps
  • 1 Dispensary
  • 1 Social hall
  • 1 Primary school with capacity of 415 pupils
  • Murram roads
  • 1 Dam
  • 2 Managerial houses
